“MAKING TRACKS” Notes From the Track Superintendent Now that the short bridge for the main line is in place at the East Portal, track laying will commence immediately. A rock sub-base has been placed in tunnel No. 1. This rock floor will give a solid footing for track to be laid over, and January should see track advancing well into the tunnel.
Tunnel No. 2 is to receive a drainage pipe running the full length to alleviate any water that may enter the tunnel. Bridge abutment work has already begun for the long bridge into “Helper”. An operation target date of August ‘06 has been set, and with the continuing help of large work parties, we will be able to run through the “Helper” wye. This portion of the railroad is generating a lot of interest and excitement, so come on out and lend a hand. And as always, your continued help and dedication to our organization is appreciated by all, Mark Adcock Track Superintendent |
