“MAKING TRACKS” Notes From the Track Superintendent Track lying continues west as we emerge from Tunnel #2. Before track was put down, a 5 inch drain pipe was placed on the tunnel floor. This pipe, with multiple holes in it for its length, was then covered with mesh, and then rock ballast. This will allow any water that might enter the tunnel to drain down grade and out of the tunnel. Steel doors on each tunnel portal will further add protection from adverse weather. Travel through these tunnels is quite a surprise--plunging into the darkness of Tunnel #1--then exiting the tunnel into 10 feet of sunshine, and then into the darkness again of Tunnel #2. We will be at the “Big Bridge” soon as we only have 100 feet of track from the West portal of Tunnel #2 to the bridge abutment. Concrete footings for the bridge bents are next on the agenda. And as always, your continued help and dedication to our organization is appreciated by all, Mark Adcock Track Superintendent |
