Well this new year is coming in with quite a bang! Colorado has had 6 weekends of snow in a row!! First is started with a 2 day pre-christmas blizzard, and followed the next weekend by another blizzard and the 4 more weekends of snow storms.
"The Holiday Blizzards I and II," as they were named, were followed by an additional storm bearing more than a foot of snow on January 4-5, bringing the snowfall total for 16 days to more than 80 inches in some areas.
By January 20th we had a few brave members who ventured out to the track site to inpsect how well Colorado Live Steamers survived the massive amounts of snow. Below is a photo sampling of some of that adventure. Armed with snow blowers, shovels, and a propane torch, members were able to clear out and unfreeze the transfer table, clear tracks on the main loop, and actually get a locomotive out and running.
The tunnels leading to our phase two westward expansion were significally buried in 3 and 4 foot drifts. Colorado is definitely an adventure for year round railroading. More photos of this adventure are located in the Photo Gallery .
